Shaker Rec Soccer is a league focused on fun, competition, and the "love of the game". There are no tryouts - the league is open to all skill levels for grades 1-6. Click below to register for spring!
If you are already participating in our Travel program (or are participating in an outside Premier or Club program), please do not register for Rec Soccer.
Shaker Rec LEAGUE - BASICS
- SYSA offers girls and boys Recreational teams for players entering Grades 1-6
- Teams practice once a week and have a game on the weekend
- There are no tryouts and we welcome all skill levels
- Players are provided opportunities to play in different positions throughout the season so they develop a well rounded understanding of the game
- Recreational leagues are offered in the Fall and Spring
- Teams are coached by Parent Volunteer Coaches
- Players can register for one or both seasons

Seasons
- Fall Season (typically Late August to Mid-October)
- Optional Indoor Clinics - November thru February
- Spring Season (typically Early April thru May)
Sunday-only option
We offer a Sunday-Only Games option for our families that are unable to participate on Saturdays.
Fees
Single season (Fall or Spring) is $125. Sign up for both in the fall and you save $25!
Fees are paid online by credit card. Partial Payment plans are available. Refunds are available before the season starts.

Notes
- Friend/Coach requests are accepted, and we will do our best to place players with their friends.
- SYSA/BBSA reserves the right to adjust teams as needed to create the best options for players.
- Teams must have a volunteer coach (preferably more than one). If you are interested in coaching, let us know during registration (there will be a checkbox on the form). Please read this testimonial to learn more.
- Registration includes a team jersey for you to keep.
- Required equipment:
- Soccer cleats (preferred) or sneakers. Cleats from other sports are PROHIBITED.
- Shin guards must be worn during practice and games.
- Soccer ball - Size 3 for 1st/2nd graders, Size 4 for 3rd/4th graders, and Size 5 for 5th/6th graders
- Field Closures Due to Weather: The City of Shaker Heights or the City of Beachwood may close fields due to wet or unsafe conditions. SYSA/BBSA may also close fields for safety reasons even if the city doesn't.
- In the event of thunder or lightning, all activities are suspended for a minimum of 15 minutes until all responsible parties decide conditions are safe. Please note the following:
- Game Delays: We will delay games up to 30 minutes if heavy rain and/or lightning is likely to pass. Please shelter in your cars or a nearby building while responsible parties assess the situation.
- Make-up Practices: Practices will be cancelled if fields are closed. Official make-up practices will NOT be held due to field scheduling constraints; however, individual coaches may make alternate practice plans.
- Make-up Games: In the event of rainouts, make-up games will be scheduled whenever possible, sometimes in lieu of practice. If necessary, the season may be extended.
- While we will make every effort to schedule make-up games, SYSA is not liable for weather conditions and cannot issue any refunds due to the administrative and staffing costs of the Recreation League.
