Financial Aid
Overview
SYSA’s mission is to teach the game of soccer as a component of developing well-rounded individuals, to develop youths to the best of their ability, and to foster a lifelong enjoyment of the game. We understand that the expense of soccer can sometimes stand in the way of reaping these benefits, and as such, we offer a need-based financial aid program. Each year SYSA budgets a specific amount for this purpose. Full or partial financial aid may be granted based on the budgeted amount and the number of qualifying players.
Players may qualify for financial aid based on their family’s income. SYSA’s financial aid committee considers participation in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HUD, Section 8), and/or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in determining eligibility, and may also consider other relevant factors. The award of financial aid to any person shall be within the sole discretion of the SYSA Board of Directors (“Board”). The Board may appoint any person(s) or committee to exercise this function on its behalf according to its direction, which person(s) or committee shall be subject to Board oversight.
The cost of soccer with SYSA towards which aid may be granted includes:
- Registration fees, required for all program types:
- Competitive Travel Teams (Fall & Spring combined)
- Competitive Travel Indoor Teams (Winter)
- Recreation League (Fall &/or Spring)
- Camps
- Clinics
- Tournament registration for Competitive Travel Teams beyond the fall tournament covered by SYSA. The number of tournaments varies by team, though most Competitive teams play one additional tournament in the Spring costing around $40-$60 per player, and participation is optional.
- Uniform package for Competitive Players used Fall/Spring and Indoor, around $150. SYSA typically has the same uniform design for 3-5 years, and players often use a uniform for multiple years as long as it fits and the design has not changed.
- If you do not already have a uniform you may request a free one, which may be granted depending on budget and number of players making this request.
- If you are approved for a free uniform, we kindly ask that you return it if you outgrow it or leave the organization so that it can be reused.
Please note that soccer basics such as cleats, shin guards, and a soccer ball are generally not covered by financial aid.
In addition to financial aid, SYSA may offer payment plans to help spread fees over time.
